Sweet Treat…  Apricot Candy is a California inspired strain which builds on the pedigree of a classic Paradise big yield sativa.

The Paradise breeding team have focused their attention on bringing an added dimension to the high THC and full flavor value of traditional Cali weed strains, by enhancing the resin content and improving the yield potential. The unique flavor profile of Apricot Candy is one for the connoisseur, an extremely potent cannabis strain which oozes like a gourmet sweet dessert

  • Apricot Candy combines Paradise Seeds heritage genetics with those of a modern day legend. From the Paradise side the mighty (and multi award winning) Dutch Dragon, with South African and Dutch genes at its sativa core. The other component comes from Thin Mint, a potent member of the Cookies family, which is responsible for its colorful terpene profile. The result is a plant that has stability and uniformity in its foundations, with the kind of extras which bring the maximum wow factor for the grower and consumer.

  • Are you ready to make your mouth water? Apricot Candy is a flavor bundle which will resonate with the canna connoisseur who will love its unique taste and silky smoothness. Its terpene profile is dominated by caryophyllene which gives its funky flavor added kick! In the grow room there are hints of apple, fresh figs and apricots has – sweet and fruity, like a fresh baked fruit pie. On the palate that sense of sweetness prevails with added notes of vanilla and ‘silky’ is the adjective that best describes the supreme smoothness of the taste.

  • Difficulty Level: Medium

Indoors : The sativa in Apricot Candy inevitably means this plant likes to stretch and this detail should be noted by those with limited height in the grow room who will need to restrain the dragon inside and keep those plants from going wild. However, the indica genetic element comes through in its sideways growth and also in its chubby swollen buds.

Outdoors : Outdoors, these plants grow like trees… In a Mediterranean climate, as expected, all that warmth and sun will fuel tremendous growth upwards and outwards. In northern regions growth will be less, but still expect the kind of specimen that could well be poking over the top of a neighbor’s fence.

  • As flowering progresses the foliage takes on dramatic shades of vibrant reds, violets and blues, bringing some excellent eye candy to admire during the growing stage. The sativa fuelled growth  and solid branch scaffolding is complemented by its indica infused bud growth pattern, producing chubby, swollen buds. Where this strain differs from many Cali varieties is the frosting supplied by the extra resin production qualities of this plant, illustrated by the trichome layer covering the flowers like the dump of fresh snow.

    Indoor Yield : 550 g per m²
Outdoor Yield: 1000 g per plant

  • Recreational: There is little waiting time with the effect of Apricot Candy, which arrives almost instantaneously with an immediate rush of energy. The + 20% THC content should come as a warning to the inexperienced, but the connoisseur will appreciate the enhanced sativa ascent – strong but clear – which lasts for half an hour or so before floating on dragon’s wings into a more relaxed Californian state of body and mind.

Medical: This one is not a medical strain for inexperienced cannabis users who could find the potency too much to handle. However, the predominance of caryophyllene found in its terpene profile is associated with an enhanced ability to bind to CB2 receptors in the body’s endocannabinoid system with anti-inflammatory effects.

  • Suitable for growing outside between 50º n.L. and 50º s.L., Apricot Candy finishes at the end of October outdoors (n.L.), while indoor finish time is 9 weeks. Estimated yield is 550g per m² indoors / 1000g per plant outdoors.

Cookies for the Dragon: Monstrously good!

Apricot Candy is a dessert strain sativa for the connoisseur which hits high notes across the board! A cross between classic Paradise strain Dutch Dragon and new generation crowd pleaser, Thin Mint Cookies, this one’s a real sweet treat!  Silky smooth (with layers of apricot, apple and vanilla flavor), super strong (+ 20% THC) and excessively resinous in a way that many Cali strains aren’t. We know you’re going to love this one!

Germination and Vegetative Stage

The two fem seeds sown popped within 2.5 days by the Doc, seedlings soon displayed vigorous growth and branched out very early, having formed a richly branched solid scaffold at the end of the three weeks veg stage, perfect for carrying big heavy buds later on. Relatively narrow-fingered shade leaves appeared, expressing the not inconsiderable sativa heritage of Apricot Candy. When he switched to flowering, The Doc read heights of 30 and 33 cm off the measuring tape.

Flowering Stage

It was obviously the sativa genes of Dutch Dragon that lead to a strong propensity to stretch, with both plants tripling in height in the first four weeks of flowering.

In terms of flower structure though, the strain’s genetic indica impulse won through -at an early stage already, The Doc knew that the buds would assume a chubby shape.

Not long and resin production started with a kind of vengeance that deeply impressed The Doc: “On both plants, resin is spilling out in vast amounts, submerging the entire buds in massive trichome layers.”

The two head buds hastened up and away, being encircled by 10 and 12, respectively, side tops further down. He was taken with the smell of this new Paradise plant as it pronounced a very complex, multi-layer sort of aroma: a mellifluous sweet fruitiness reminiscent of a fruit basket filled with apricots, figs and apples, blended with spicy-woody notes of pine, cedar or thuja.

In the last three weeks of flowering, the two Apricot Candy specimens resorted to the paint pot and coloured their calyxes and flower leaves reddish, dark violet to blueish which further added to their attractiveness. Also because through this, those immensely frosty white resin gland coatings contrasted to the max. After almost precisely nine weeks (62 and 64 days), the blooming show was over.

Final Apricot Candy heights were 92cm and 104cm.

Harvest Yield

103 and 113 grams.

Smell and Smoke Report

With their awesome crystalline appearance looking like shock-frosted, the dried buds were able to rival the best Californian West Coast produce. And gave off that unmistakable intense fragrance of a sweet fruit potpourri seasoned with different spices with a strong hint of dried apricots.

With the usual test amount of 0.5 grams in the filling chamber of his Mighty vaporizer, The Doc was ready for his first Apricot Candy taste and effect experience. Almost as savoury-sweet and full-bodied as a spiced cake with dried fruits – Apricot Candy set its own unique flavor mark.

After he had taken two more draws and was still feasting on that yummy taste, he felt a strongly stimulating ascent of euphoria, as if the Cookie Dragon’s mighty breath had blown over him and provided him with mental tailwind.

An initial invigorating sativa kick without an unpleasantly accelerated heartbeat that lasted about half an hour until the energy curve began to level off. So that The Doc, still in a sunny state of mind, started to sense the chilly side of Apricot Candy through getting cozy, completely relaxed bodily feelings.

The verdict

These two outstanding varieties have been amalgamated into a monstrously good new strain, the cookies diet has pushed the Dutch Dragon to new heights of performance. Definitely a most valuable new addition to the Paradise strain library!
